imageSolar panels are gaining interest amongst people of this energy crunched world. What are solar panels? They are an array of photovoltaic cells which capture the energy of the solar rays. In simple terms, the solar panels capture the energy from the sun during the day for later use. Solar energy is renewable source of energy and does not get depleted like coal or natural gas. It can be tapped as much as required and used to power all our energy needs. With the invention of solar panels, which has helped mankind tap the solar energy, solar power has become an increasingly powerful source of energy in the last decade or so. Solar panels are made of crystalline silicon and gallium arsenide. The same silicon is used in the microprocessor chips. The gallium arsenide is very expensive which also makes the initial investment cost of solar panels high. These panels harvest the solar energy and convert it to electricity. The electricity produced depends on how much of energy is harvested. Roughly, a solar sell of 0.2 m in diameter can create electricity of 2 amps of 2 volts when exposed to direct sunlight at the surface of the equator. However, the electricity production is decided not only by the size of the panel but also by the quality of materials used in making the solar cells. With time as well as with wear and tear, the electricity production capacity of the solar cells comes down. The solar panels are environment friendly and cause no pollution while producing the electricity. It also causes no imbalance to the eco system. The electricity generated by the solar panels can be used to power a whole lot of appliances. Solar power is very commonly used for lighting needs. Solar panels are also extensively used on satellites. Solar energy is a clean source of power for all needs, having no impact on the environment. Solar power and solar panels are the energy solution for the future. The conventional sources of energy like fossil fuels and natural gas are fast depleting. To meet the energy demands of the future, we will have to make use of cleaner and renewable sources of energy like solar power. The solar panels relieve you of the dependence on the power grid altogether and can meet all household energy needs. The smaller solar panels are portable and can accompany you in all your travels. These are very handy when you do not have access to other sources of electricity to power smaller appliances. Hand held devices, laptops, calculators and small motorized vehicles run well with the portable solar panels. There are endless applications for the solar panels if you decide to use them. Solar panels can be purchased from various solar panel producers and distributors. The price varies and is mainly depending on the power production capacity of the panel. These panels are generally installed in open areas like the roof top or open ground to tap maximum direct sunlight. The location of the panel should be such that it is exposed to maximum sunlight all through the year. Proper selection and installation of a good solar panel will ensure that all your energy needs are met. The high investment cost of solar panels has dissuaded many people to go in for them. However, the cost alone should not be the deciding factor while selecting a means of electricity. The solar panels produce no toxic gases or products in the generation of electricity and helps keep the environment clean and unpolluted. Using solar panels is the least we can do to protect our environment and make our earth a better place for future generations.
Watch in HD Watch The First Part of This Project First At: www.youtube.com Visit Solar Tech Town for the full video: www.solartechtown.com I, Robert Smith, show you every step I take to building a custom made solar panel from scratch. I explain in detail about each item I use and why to use it, so the video is fairly long. I will be hosting the majority of the video on my own server so you can view it all in one take. It will take time to edit the video, but the more of you that subscribe to the video, the faster I’ll try to get it out to you guys as it just shows that people are interested and appreciate what I’m doing, as I’m providing this video for free unlike some videos you see on youtube. The method I described in this video is just one way to go about it, however, there are many ways you can build a custom solar panel. Some use aluminum or plastic frames, but I found for a beginner, working with wood would probably be easier and cheaper. Overall, building a solar panel can be fun, but there are many factors that play into building a solar panel, and I as well still have an extreme amount to still learn about it. So I hope that for those wanting to learn more about solar energy and wanting to take the adventure of building their own solar panel will find this video very useful. imageIf you are a parent, then one day it is likely that your child will come to you and ask you what photovoltaic solar energy is. Even if you are not a parent, it might benefit you to know the answer to that question. Society today is looking for new solutions to the energy crisis that is hitting developed countries hard, knowing alternatives to traditional energy solutions is useful. First, let’s look at what photovoltaic solar energy is. Solar photovoltaics refer to solar cells that take in the radiation from the sun and convert it into direct current electricity. For those that are unsure, direct current is the source of energy that typically feeds the energy needs of your household. The studies done in this area have allowed the technology used in photovoltaic solar energy efficiency to double every two years in the past decade. This research has also lead to a number of breakthroughs that decrease the cost of solar energy. These breakthroughs include using less expensive materials, or less amounts of the expensive material, and increasing the efficiency of those materials with conversion from solar radiation to direct current. Increasing the efficiency generally means that less material is used for production of energy, thereby decreasing the costs necessary for solar panel production. Now let’s look into the uses for photovoltaic solar energy. Simply put, this can be an efficient way to power your entire home. Many people tire of paying costly energy bills, this is understandable. When people get so fed up, they start looking for alternative energy sources. Alternative energy sources can be a variety of different options but two come to mind primarily: wind energy and sun energy. The advantage of both is that they will always occur. The disadvantage to both is that they are not always predictable. Many consumers choose the suns energy over the wind because it is more reliable, and there is no noise by product that can become an annoyance at least and have health consequences at most. If you are looking into solar energy solutions, you don’t necessarily need to wire your entire home with a large solar energy solution with a backup power supply, you can invest in separate pieces that are not such a large investment. The range of products that use photovoltaic solar energy is quite diverse and includes items such as mobile phone chargers and car battery chargers. If you drive an RV, solar panels can often be installed and adapted to ensure you have a reliable power source. Most of the photovoltaic solar energy production is being tied into new buildings that are also connected to the local utilities power grid. Tying solar systems into the grid offers a backup power solution and additional solar energy that gets generated may also pay off with a check from the local utility company paying for excess energy. Photovoltaic energy has been around for a number of years and will continue to do so. The product range is diverse, and the science involved in the field is expanding. Understanding how photovoltaic’s work is crucial to implementing a solar energy solution in your home.
short video describing a small solar power system that i set up at my house. it consists of twelve 1 amp solar panels (15 watts each for a total of 180 watts of power – per hour). i use it to run all lights (cfl’s), fans, tv’s, and stereos in the house. also the microwave, coffee maker, blender, can opener, sandwich grill, toaster, vacuum, computer and anything else i can think of. run time for lights/fans only is approx 8 hours. add in vacuuming, microwaving or toaster along with lights, tv and the fans and the run time is reduced to 4-5 hours a day. i bought solar panels, inverter (1000 watt) and killowatt meter at Harbor Freight tools, the batteries (deep cycle) from walmart and the battery cables from checker auto. total cost was about $1200 to $1300
