Team Montreal, the only Canadian team in this year's edition of the Solar Decathlon, is a consortium of some 40 bilingual students - 15 women and 25 men - from three universities in Montreal. Engineering students from the École de technologie supérieure and Architecture students from McGill University and Université de Montréal working together as a team to build a solar house that is self-sufficient and ecologically solar-powered. This international competition is organized by the United States Department of Energy and is aimed at promoting innovation in the design of autonomous residential buildings that are architecturally appealing and highly energy-efficient. Between October 12th to 20th, the National Mall in front of the Capitol will be transformed into a solar village for the hosting of the competition. Twenty universities from America and Europe will be competing and judged in ten categories.
INFO WASHINGTON
Team Montréal has slipped....
October 19th 2007 1:15 PM
…into eight position!
What happened? Results for the “energy balance” contest, that have yet been confirmed as final, have set us back quite a bit. We only obtained 26% in this category where basically energy contained, as of testing, in the house batteries must be equivalent to the energy contained when the decathletes started the contest a week ago. Obviously with a grade like this one, we did not have sufficient energy! Rain is coming down on Washington at the present time, so Team Montréal cannot count on recharging our solar powered batteries right now.
Will be back at 2:15 PM with final results – stay tuned!
